Watching Tara

I suppose we should call this a little Feature Friday! My dear friend, Mark wrote a short film called "Watching Tara" that we shot a few weeks ago. The short is about Jordan, his roommate Will and Will's sister Tara. Tara has just gotten out of rehab for heroin addiction and has to stay at her brother's apartment. Will's roommate Jordan is a drug addict himself. The story follows Jordan and Tara as they help each other recover.

Mark also asked me to costume the film! It was really fun and interesting to use colors in this short. As the story progresses both Jordan and Tara get more comfortable with eachother and I used color to represent them coming out of their hazy lifestyle. But never fret children! There are many humorous moments in the film as well. Pumped for everyone to see it! Thanks for tuning in.

Canadian Tuxedo

I have a funny story about this outfit. Since moving out to LA, money has been a little tight. I haven't gotten too many opportunities to wine and dine myself. So one day I got home from a quick morning shift at work and declared I wanted to go to a restaurant and have someone SERVE ME A MEAL. And a beer, of course. Maybe two. Luckily my three lovely roommates had the afternoon free and we were all able to go to lunch together. So I put together a little Canadian tuxedo and off we went! I believe I got a black bean burger, sweet potato fries and a Stella. I'm sure you guys were wondering.

This brings up another point. I read an article the other day about women not giving themselves enough "me" time. I've been having a lot of back pain lately and I felt reeeally bad about spending money on a massage, like it was some extreme luxury I didn't deserve. However LADIES, we shouldn't feel bad about spending some time to just friggin relax. There are only so many hours in a day and if we can't squeeze everything in, we really don't need to be punishing ourselves. Life happens. TREAT YOSELF. TREAT YOSELF.

Blue Three

Well. I've done it again. The blue is back and it continues to disappoint. This semi-permanent, do it yoself dye is quite the snake. It just fades really fast and I'm absolutely terrible at applying it. The whole bathroom turns blue and I miss huge chunks of my hair but what can ya do! I'm trying to tell myself this is the last time I'll do it, but I can't make any promises.

I wore this little ensemble to dinner with our wonderful friend Luke Millington-Drake. You guys he made a feeeeast. Butternut squash risotto, ratatouille (I spelled that right without even spell check, WHAT WHAT!?), some sort of chicken thing, salad, a lovely vodka/cranberry punch situation, and TWO desserts!!! So basically this is a memo to all my other friends to STEP YO GAME UP and treat me to a fine dinner experience. Now I should mention that Luke treated us to the fine meal because he stayed at our place for a week. I have many other favors to offer friends, SO GET TO COOKIN'!

I would also like to take some time in this post to thank my wonderful photo-o-grapher, Thomas. I often forget how much time he takes to edit these photos and make me look really cool. The other night we messed with this last photo on the computer for a good 45 minutes. He made my face look bloody and really gross and it was super hilarious. I sometimes don't realize all the cool things he can do. So Thomas, THANK YOU so so much. I'm real glad we are doing dis thang thang together! You are a gentleman and a scholar and a TALENT.

Clothing Swap

So can I tell everyone how wonderful Los Angeles is? Well...it actually has really nothing to do with Los Angeles! You guys are going to loooove this. So there is this thing here where tons and tons of people live in this city so lots of houses have apartments in the back. We are so lucky because our back neighbors are just the best. So my neighbor Nadia, who is quite the fashionista, has occasional clothing swaps with her friends. This is where everyone brings a bunch of things from their closet that they don't want and you all swap shit! UHHHMM WHY HAD I NEVER THOUGHT OF THIS BEFORE. It's the ideal situation. Especially because sometimes one gets attached to a certain piece of clothing and it's secretly really difficult to let go of it.This way you get to see your friend look fab in it and maybe perhaps borrow it back if you desperately need it again!

So anyway, Nadia was kind enough to let me go through all the extra things that nobody took and of course I found a bunch of really great stuff, like this tanktop for instance. I wore dis fit just up to the local pub for a beverage or two. If you're in a colder place, it would be great to add a black leather jacket or jean jacket of course. Everyone let me know if you do a friend clothing swap! I'd love to hear how it went!

P.S. This is an extremely large shrubbery in our front yard and although I've never watched it, I'm told it looks like the Game of Thrones throne.
P.P.S. Just got Amy Poehler's book in the mail and will now go into hibernation until it's finished. kbye.

SHORT-ER-ALLS

I'm so surprised these overalls haven't made their blog debut because I wear them ALL the time! And I've really worn them a bunch of different ways: with a flower print tee, black and white stripes, or a flannel! I also busted out my rusty Vans. I never realized it until Kate and Thomas pointed it out, but I don't think I ever get rid of shoes. I have a pair of black converse that I've had since 6th grade. THAT'S OVER A DECADE YOU GUYS! And they still haven't fallen apart. Dat's a goooood pair of shoes.

Working at Francesca's I see a lot of those super chunky necklaces all day, but I've become quite fond of layering delicate necklaces. This move is especially great if your outfit has a lot of bold patterns or textures going onnnn!

Oh P.S. Today is my day of birth! I'm currently cleaning our house like crazy because MY MOM IS ON HER WAY HERE! I'm so excited to show her around LA because she hasn't been here in a really long time! I also feel like showing someone around your new citay really makes you feel like you live there. I have been having trouble coming to terms with the fact that we live here now. It still feels like a vacation or like it's just not real. Lots of good posts coming up everyone!

kale

How funny is this shirt? Last month my sister Emma and I road tripped to San Francisco to see our oldest sister Maude. San Fran is so cool you guys. We went shopping on Height and Ashbury and I spotted this gem and knew I had to have it. This fringe is another way you could cut up a t-shirt you are bored of! I probably wouldn't have enough patience to cut up all those little strips but hey, I have faith in YOU.

Have you guys been seeing people wear their sandals over their pants like this? I think people have been doing it for a while now actually, but I just jumped on the band wagon. It's quite nice if you have short legs like me because you aren't steppin' all ova yo shiiiiiit. You know what else I'm excited to sport?! Ruffled socks under wedges! Keep seeing it in magazines. Looks adorable for fall!

Oh and LOOOOOK! The ice cream truck comes down our street!

Teach Me How to Halter

Remember when I told you guys how hot it is here? WELL...it's not that hot anymore. It's quite nice out really, BUT my friends Mother Nature is as unpredictable as celebrity nude photos getting leaked. So, we must be prepared. Which calls for halter tops!

There's actually a very funny story about this shirt I'm wearing. It once belonged to my younger sister, Britta. Now, I grew up with four sisters. You always needed to be on full wardrobe watch with these chicks around because the moment you weren't looking, someone was stealing your clothes. (SISSIES IF YOU WOULD HAVE JUST ASKED I WOULD HAVE considered LETTING YOU BORROW SOMETHING. THIEVERY IS SHAMEFUL.) So here is my confession: when I was staying in my lovely mother's house a couple weeks before I moved I snuck into Britta's room and snagged this shirt! MUAHAHA. Let me justify this here...Britta had previous informed me she had yet to wear this shirt because she didn't know what to wear it with. I offered to trade her something of mine so I could have the Lennon shirt, but then she left for vacation so I just TOOK IT. The thought was there. However, Britta was furious with me for several weeks about the whole scandal. Seriously...she ignored my phone calls and texts for a good week and made me extensively apologize, and now that she sees I have cut up her t-shirt, I'm fearing for my life. Did I mention John is MY favorite Beatle!? It belongs to me, and Britta...it looks much better now. Srsly. Aaaaaaaand I love you. A lot. *$#**BeSt SiSsY!**#$*

So if you have an old tee you are tryna switch up try this! I hope to pair it with a flowy maxi skirt next. It would also be cute with boyfriend jeans. So here is how it goes down YOU GUYS:

1. Start with your (or your sister's) t-shirt.
2. Cut da sleeves off so it becomes a tank.
 3. Clip along the shoulder until you hit the neck seam.
 4. Cut from the neck diagonally down to the armpits.
5. Flip it over and cut out the bottom of the neck hole.
 6. Cut along the back, armpit to armpit. (You can cut the back hole as high or deep as you want. I wish I could wear this without a bloody bandeau bra but I can't have these things out and about. But seriously...looks real adorbs without a bra. If you can get away with it, show off dat baaaaack!)
